There is a new race coming to town that is getting a lot of buzz, and it goes by the name ‘Austin 10/20.’  This race boasts 20 stages lining the 10-mile course and will fill the streets of Austin with music and runners on April 15.  Many participants will look forward to the unusual race distance along with the abundance of entertainment on course, and there are many ways to make sure you get the most of the race.  One way is to make Without Regrets Foundation a part of your race plan.

Without Regrets Foundation received their 501c3 non-profit status this past October and established themselves in Austin to help ‘terminal or gravely and progressively ill parents of minor children accomplish a meaningful goal with their family before the end of their life.’  They believe in building memories a child has of time with their parents and they helped their first family in December; they are now assisting their second family.  “In less than a year we knew three people who passed away and left behind young children,” explained co-founder Tara Ballard.  “Over many discussions we decided that something needed to be done for other families in situations like these so we decided to start Without Regrets.”

Austin 10/20 has provided the perfect opportunity for community outreach and fundraising for the organization.  “This team is adding to the number of people who know about our organization, both in team members that have been recruited due to their love of running or walking and those that the team members are reaching out to in their fundraising efforts.”

Austin 10/20 provides a training plan, but those who sign up as a Without Regrets team member have access to team coach, Lateef Johnson, a seasoned athlete and fitness professional (who appeared in Austin Fit Magazine in the 3M Half Marathon ad).  He is providing free cross-training classes for team members, and there is also a clinic on injury prevention and at least one group run before the event planned.  Team members also have access to a team Google Group where they can connect with other team members.

The minimum fundraising goal is $100 and for this you receive:

  • Fundraising support (with a personal web page to collect online donations)
  • Access to the team coach (and free cross training sessions)
  • A $5 discount on race registration
  • A Without Regrets dri-fit shirt to wear at the race
  • Support at the event and access to the team tent before and after the race
  • “We thought a running program would be a great way to spread the word about Without Regrets and gather support of people in the area,” shares Tara.  “Additionally, our team members are raising much needed funds for our organization to be able to help more deserving families before it is too late.”

To get more information on Without Regrets Foundation you can view their website at www.withoutregrets.org.  If you are interested in joining their team, you can fill out this registration form and email it to info [at] withoutregrets [dot] org to get set up and start raising money for this wonderful organization.
